Gambling has been legal in the state of Michigan since the 1980s. The first official tribal casino to open in Michigan was the Kings Club Casino in Brimley, Michigan. This casino was owned and operated by the Bay Mills Indian Community. Since then, Indian tribes have opened casinos across the state—from the Michigan-Indiana border all the way to the U.P.’s Keweenaw Peninsula.
